How To Get There ....

Getting to Skreen..

The village of Skreen is situated on Sligo Bay on the west coast of Ireland, approximately 140 miles NW of Dublin. Like many small countries, travel links to the capital city are better than those between regions.

..From North America

All flights from USA/Canada land at either Dublin or Shannon. Airport buses from Dublin will take you to either the long distance bus depot (Busaras) or to Connolly Station for direct services to Sligo. Aer Lingus Commuter also run a feeder service by turboprop aircraft to Sligo airport, but the prices may be high for the relatively short distance. Alternatively you can rent a car at Dublin airport and follow the M50 motorway ring to pick up the N4 to Sligo. Leave the N4 at Ballysadare, about 5 miles south of Sligo and take the N59 towards Ballina. About 10 miles along this road you will see a signpost Stokes’ Birthplace. You may find cheaper flights into Shannon, near the city of Limerick, which is about the same distance from Skreen, but more difficult by public transport. By road take the N18 to Galway then the N17 to Sligo: this is a scenic route and car hire would be an attractive option.

..From Britain and Europe

There are direct flights from most European capitals to Dublin, whereafter you follow the directions above. The London-Dublin route is very competitive at the moment, with flights from Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, London City and Luton. Airlines are Aer Lingus, Ryanair, Cityjet and British Airways Express and good deals are to be had! Another possibility is to take a Ryanair flight into Knock in North Mayo, about 30 miles from Skreen, but these are infrequent. There are frequent direct flights to Dublin from major British cities. Sea ferries are also possible from Holyhead.

..From elsewhere outside Europe

The best plan would be a direct flight into another European country with direct links to Dublin (e.g. London, Paris, Amsterdam, Munich, Zurich, Rome, Copenhagen), then proceed as above.

Local Minibus Service

Once places and times of arrival are clear, we will be organising collection by minibus at centres where sufficient participants are gathered. We will certainly be meeting participants at the railway station in Sligo or at the Bus Eireann stop in Ballysadare, but may possibly run minibuses from Dublin Airport or Knock.
